Description
A complex and mineral Pessac-Léognan white wine
The estate
Château Couhins retrieved archives that hark back to the 18th century. This estate initially combined two former Graves wineries. Regarded as an integral part of the INRA (National Institute of Agricultural Research) establishment, Château Couhins provides its know-how and its vineyard in order to drive forward the institute’s research and innovations.
The vineyard
Château Couhins 2021 is a Pessac-Léognan white wine made from an 8-hectare vineyard located in the area surrounding Villenave d'Ornon, on the outskirts of Bordeaux. The vines are planted on a tapestry of terroirs and rest on a clay-limestone hill and a sandy-clay plateau. Sauvignon Blanc is the King variety and makes up for 90% of the vineyard. The Sauvignon Gris varietal represents the rest of the vines. In order to best preserve this treasured terroir, the estate uses sustainable viticultural practices. Certified as a High Environmental Value estate, Château Couhins is currently converting to organic farming.
Vinification and ageing
A pneumatic cold pressing under inert gas is carried out on the whole grape harvest, followed by a gentle settling. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out in barrels. Aged for 9 months in barrels on lees with regular stirring.
The blend
Sauvignon Blanc (96%)
Sauvignon Gris (4%).
