    Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Figeac 2023

    Tasting

    Nose
Complex and elegant, the nose exudes fruity (blackcurrant, strawberry) and floral fragrances.

    Palate
Supported by a beautiful minerality and a salinity characteristic of gravel soils, the palate seduces with its balance, its spicy and floral aromas stretching to a fresh and persistent finish.

A lively and rich Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" from Saint-Émilion

    The estate

First Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, the Château Figeac embodies the excellence of great wines from Bordeaux around the world. Château Figeac has been owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years. On September 8, 2022, Château Figeac was elevated to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" in the Classification of Grands Crus of Saint-Émilion.

    The vineyard

An illustrious reference among the great wines of Saint-Émilion, Château Figeac benefits from an exceptional location, to the west of the appellation, on the edge of the Pomerol appellation. The estate's vineyard is planted on 3 different gravel ridges. Respect for biodiversity, flora and fauna are at the heart of the estate's concerns.

    The wine

2023 is the 130th vintage of the Manoncourt Family.

    The vintage

Despite significant rainfall, the mildness of the early year favours an early bud break with a two-week lead before a frost episode on April 4 and 5 without impact on the vineyard thanks to the rigour of the teams. Subsequently, vegetative growth is homogeneous thanks to warm conditions punctuated by some rain. The almost tropical climate in June leads to high sanitary pressure, which is also controlled. A dry and sunny July precedes an August marked by heat peaks offset by salvatory rainy episodes.

    Vinification and ageing

The harvest is placed in a cold room before a rigorous sorting and gentle vinifications in the estate's new vat room. Controlled extraction. Slow and continuous fermentation. No use of sulphur.

    Blend

    Merlot (41%)
    Cabernet Franc (32%)
    Cabernet Sauvignon (27%).
