Description
The opulence and balance of a velvety and fresh Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
A Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, Château Franc Mayne enjoys an exceptional location in the prestigious appellation. Owned by the Savare family since 2018, Château Franc Mayne is enjoying a great momentum of renewal. The property is beautifully represented by the signature style of its wines, which reveal a pure expression of the Saint-Emilion terroir.
The vineyard
The Château Franc Mayne vineyard extends over 7 hectares of vines with a magnificent location on the limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion, on a hillside of clay and sandy clay soils.
The vintage
2019 will undoubtedly be remembered at the property. In addition to being a great vintage ending in -9, 2019 also marked the conversion of the estate to organic farming and a continuous restructuring of the vineyard. Over one hectare of vines on the limestone plateau and at the top of the property were uprooted. Throughout the vine's vegetative cycle, the technical teams at Château Franc Mayne intervened with organic treatmens. This constant vigilance made it possible to successfully overcome the trials of nature. After a mild winter and a rainy spring, summer 2019 brought scorching temperatures. The harvest began under calm conditions on September 19 and finished on September 24.
The blend
Merlot
(100%).
The ageing
Ageing in barrels (50% new French oak barrels, 50% in casks, amphorae and barrels of one previous wine).
The tasting
Tasted en primeur, the Château Franc Mayne 2019 sports an intense purple-red colour. At first discreet, the nose reveals notes of fresh red berries and black fruits before expressing more floral fragrances, like violets and fresh liquorice. On the palate, the wine immediately deploys a full-bodied texture, structured by dense and deliciously velvety tannins. At the end of the palate, the wine presents a nice freshness with saline notes that testify to the minerality of the Saint-Émilion soil.
