Description
The balance of a Sauternes First Classified Growth
The estate
"La Maison Noble du Bayle" is the historic name of Château Guiraud, from when it was owned by the Mons de Saint Poly family. In 1766 Bordeaux merchant Pierre Guiraud bought the estate. In the 80 years and three generations that followed, Guiraud has become a prestigious name and classified as a First Growth of Sauternes in the 1855 Classification.
The vineyard
Château Giraud boasts an exceptional 128-hectare vineyard, planted in gravelly sand and gravelly clay soils. The vineyard has been conducted in organic since 1996 and certified since 2011.
The vintage
The climatic conditions of 2019 allowed for fantastic Botytris cinerea coverage. A good development of the latter on freshly ripened grapes allowed the fruit to preserve and amplify its lively aromas.
The winemaking and ageing
Manual harvest from September 8 to October 11, successive sorting of botrytised grapes. Fermentation in oak barrels, 3 to 6 weeks. Ageing in barrels from 18 to 24 months.
The blend
Sémillon, Sauvignon blanc
The tasting
The first tastings show a good balance and complexity, as well as a fantastic combination of liveliness and concentration.
