Description
A fine wine from Pomerol by the Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite
The estate
Established gradually by the Léglise family from Libourne around the middle of the 18th century, Château L’Évangile quickly earned the reputation of a "First Growth of Haut-Pomerol". After having been owned by the Ducasse family, it was in 1990 that the Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite bought the estate and invested into making the estate one of the appellation’s best. From the vineyard to the cellar, Château L’Évangile has undergone major restructuring and modernisations that have made the property shine bright among the finest references in the Pomerol appellation.
The vineyard
Reigning over a 22-hectare vineyard, Château L’Évangile enjoys a privileged location, bordered by Pétrus to the north and Château Cheval Blanc to the south. The vineyard is planted in sandy clay soil with pure gravel, resting upon a subsoil made of the appellation’s famous iron ore (crasse de fer).
The vintage
The Château L’Évangile vineyard withstood the high temperatures to which it was exposed during this very sunny 2019 vintage particularly well. The harvest began on September 13 with the Merlot on the Pomerol plateau and continued with the Cabernet. The excellent yields obtained pointed immediately to the birth of a great 2019 vintage. In particular, the quality of the Cabernet Sauvignon stood out, forecasting a great future potential for this variety on the right bank of Bordeaux.
The blend
Merlot (83,5%), cabernet franc (16%), cabernet sauvignon (0,5%).
