Château Margaux 2008: A Powerfully Complex, Plush Margaux
Château Margaux, 1855 1st Growth Classification in the Margaux appellation, benefits from vines planted in gravel soils, which characterize the appellation. The 2008 vintage boasts a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 1.5% Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Petit Verdot. The drought in July allowed the soils to absorb the misty August rains, and the favourable weather that followed in mid-September helped to limit the amount of water in the vineyard. For this vintage, 36% of the harvest was devoted to this top ranked growth wine. However, the losses due to racking resulted in 31% of the harvest being used for bottling.
The Château Margaux 2008 has elegant, nuanced aromas on the nose, and on the palate, the wine is powerfully complex with velvety, fine-grained tannins, and a long, lingering finish. This is truly a classic representation of Château Margaux.
