Description
The character and the richness of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
Located to the north-east of Saint-Émilion, Château Sansonnet joined the small circle of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classés in 2012. This beautiful estate has undergone a vast improvement programme throughout the vineyard to further enhance the quality of the wines. In 2009, Marie-Bénédicte Lefèvre took over the management of the estate and is leading it with ambition, passion and determination, with the aim of bringing the estate to the top of Saint-Émilion wines.
The vineyard
Château Sansonnet 2022 is a Saint-Émilion wine produced from a 7-hectare single vineyard. The vines are an average of 35 years old and are planted on a clay-limestone terroir on asteriated limestone on the famous plateau of the appellation. As part of an overall approach to respecting the environment, the vines are subject to rational phytosanitary treatments and the soil is worked. The Château Sansonnet vineyard is also committed to an EMS approach and is HVE (High Environmental Value) Level 3 certified.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage is marked by its early ripening, the result of dry summer weather trends. However, the clay-limestone terroir enabled the vines to retain and release moisture, allowing them to develop and the grapes to reach optimum ripeness.
Winemaking and ageing
Hand-picked in crates, then sorted by density. Vatting for 28 days with punching down of the cap. Vinification in truncated wooden and stainless steel vats. Vinification and malolactic fermentation in 500-litre barrels. The wine is aged for 16 months, 70% in new 225 and 300-litre barrels, 25% in wooden tuns and 5% in amphorae.
Blend
The 2022 vintage is a blend of Merlot (92%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (3%).
