Chateau Soutard 2016: A Saint-Emilion full of finesse
Classified Growth in the Saint-Emilion appellation, Chateau Soutard is a 20 hectare vineyard. The vines, are 30 years old on average, and planted on clay-limestone and sandy soil. The wine is aged in barrels, 60% in new barrels. The 2016 vintage is a blend of 63% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Malbec.
2016 began as a difficult vintage with heavy rainfall in the winter and spring. Summer's temperatures brought heat and a drought. The rain in early September allowed the grapes to mature. Harvest occurred on September 22nd and lasted until October 20th.
Chateau Soutard 2016 has a beautiful deep, red colour. The nose reveals aromas of red fruits, black fruits and crushed strawberries. The tannins are ripe and silky. The freshness is attributed to the tannins, as is the wine's elegance. A beautiful length in the mouth. Chateau Soutard 2016 is a fleshy, balanced, fruity and mineral wine.
