Description
The richness of a dry white wine from Sauternes
The estate
The story of Clos des Lunes begins with an ambitious adventure begun in 2011. The challenge: to produce a legendary dry white wine in the exceptional Sauternes region. This was the task undertaken by the visionary Olivier Bernard and his family, owners of the Domaine de Chevalier in Pessac-Léognan who, with great passion and dedication, have worked to make Clos des Lunes one of the greatest references for the dry white wines of Bordeaux in this land of sweet wines.
The vineyard
The Clos des Lunes vineyard covers 65 hectares in the hills of Sauternes. The vines, aged 35 years on average, are planted in deep gravel upon clay-limestone subsoil.
The winemaking and ageing
Manual harvest in crates by successive sorting. Slow pneumatic pressing. No destemming or maceration. Settling by gravity and regular stirring of the lees. Ageing for 6 months (25% in oak barrels, 75% in tanks).
The blend
Sémillon (70%) sauvignon (30%)
The tasting
The Clos des Lunes Lune d´Argent 2019 is a wine characterised by its bright pale gold colour. Seductive on the nose with herbaceous aromas of acacia and ripe, sweet white fruit. The rich palate of the Clos des Lunes Lune d'Argent 2019 echoes the nose with fruity flavours. A bright acidity balances this richness, lending a nice freshness to the wine. The finish is tight, revealing aromas of candied citrus and a nice, mineral salinity.
