Description
A creamy and complex Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion
The estate
The main defining characteristic of Clos Fourtet, a Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, is that it is classified as a “clos.” In a constant search for excellence, Clos Fourtet and the Cuvelier family practice sustainable agriculture with a profound respect for natural balances.
The vineyard
The 25-year-old vines are cultivated on the 20-hectare vineyard of Clos Fourtet, planted in clay-limestone soils typical of Saint-Emilion.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage was characterised by some extreme climates. Marked by heat and tempered by a few rain showers, 2019 yielded very ripe Merlot and fresh Cabernet, whose blend promises to be marvelous.
The winemaking
Harvest from September 24 to October 10. Fermentation on full berries. Small-capacity thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks. Extraction by natural punch-downs. Fermentation from 22 to 30 days. Malolactic fermentation in vats and in barrels.
The ageing
14 to 18 months in an underground cellar, 50% in new French oak barrels, 48% in barrels of one previous wine and 2% in amphora
The blend
Merlot (90%), cabernet sauvignon (7%), cabernet franc (3%).
The tasting
The Clos Fourtet 2019 presents a deep garnet colour with bright purple reflections. The intense nose combines floral fragrances of violet with fruity notes of blackberry. The fresh and powerful attack brings an elegant texture with creamy tannins lining the palate. The Clos Fourtet 2019 reveals a beautiful aromatic complexity and stretches on for a long time on a persistent finish.
