Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Brezza's Sarmassa 2018
Cellaring
Already enjoyable today, this Barolo reveals all its complexity after 9 to 10 years of aging.
The elegant expression of a great wine from Piedmont
The estate
A true historical pillar of the Barolo appellation, the Azienda Agricola Brezza Giacomo e Figli perpetuates a family winemaking tradition since 1885. The estate, which released its first vintage in 1910, is today in the hands of the fourth generation. Located just 500 meters from the center of the village of Barolo, in the province of Coni, this Piedmontese property produces authentic wines, combining refinement, heritage, and territorial identity.
The vineyard
This Piedmont estate extends over 31 hectares, including 20 hectares of vineyards classified in DOCG or DOC. These plots, certified in organic farming, are spread over some of the most renowned terroirs of the appellation, notably in Monforte, Novello and Alba. Brezza notably owns a vineyard in the historic cru of Cannubi, mentioned as early as 1752 as one of the oldest official crus in Italy.
The wine
Produced only in exceptional vintages, the Barolo Sarmassa comes from a one-hectare vineyard, planted on a clay-limestone soil conducive to the expression of Nebbiolo.
Vinification and aging
The vinification follows a traditional method, with prolonged maceration that allows to extract all the subtlety of naturally soft tannins.
