Description

The finesse of a powerful and aromatic Margaux Cru Classé

The estate
Located on the left bank of Bordeaux, Château Giscours is a historic property of the Margaux appellation with vines planted for the first time in the 16th century. This superb 3rd Classified Growth of Margaux is a true standard of the Bordeaux region, with its distinctive architecture (which resembles a neoclassical palace), its unique park and its buildings, including the beautiful "Ferme Suzanne". In 1995, Château Giscours entered a new era of its history following its acquisition by Dutch businessman Eric Albada Jelgersma.

The vineyard
The Château Giscours vineyard covers 95 hectares of vines in production on 300 hectares in total. A real gem, the Château Giscours terroir stands out for its 3 outcroppings of deep Garonnaise gravel, which play a decisive role in the ripening cycle of the grapes.

The vintage
At Château Giscours, the 2019 vintage revealed the typical character of each grape variety and each terroir. The harvest began on September 11 with the Merlot and ended on October 12. The Merlot displayed a different profile on each terroir. Some terroirs produced Merlots with juicy and fresh fruit while others produced rounded and more gourmet Merlot. At the winery, the vinifications were carried out in a way to preserve the finesse of the tannins.

The winemaking
Manual and optical sorting. Concrete and stainless steel tanks. 35 days maceration at 28 °.

The ageing
17 months of ageing in French oak barrels, 50% new French oak.

The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (65%), merlot (35%).

The tasting
Tasted as a wine future, the Château Giscours 2019 offers a faithful representation of the signature style of the property. Power and ample material. The property’s technical team has done a remarkable job of highlighting the bright aromas and finesse of the tannins. On the palate, this fine red wine of Margaux testifies to the greatness of Cabernet which bring structure, freshness and density to the blend. The Château Giscours 2019 will seduce the fans of this property with its precision and balance.
