Description
Château Maucaillou 2016: a Moulis of great depth
The Château Maucaillou is a red wine produced in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation. It comes from a 74-hectare vineyard. With an average age of over 30-years-old, the vines are mainly planted on Günz gravel, as well as clay-limestone soil. The wine is aged in barrels (40% in new barrels, 40% with one wine and 20% with two wines). The 2016 Château Maucaillou is made from a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot.
At Château Maucaillou, the 2016 vintage climatic conditions were marked with rainy winter, making it possible for the vines to build water reserves, and a fairly favourable spring with a lovely flowering of the vines. Summer was hot and dry. The harvest finally took place from October 7 to 27.
The Château Maucaillou 2016 develops red fruit, black fruit and forest floor aromas with pleasant empyreumatic notes (tobacco). It is medium-bodied on the palate with oaky flavours. The Château Maucaillou 2016 is a wine of great depth on the finish, revealing even a subtle spicy aftertaste.
This comment is mainly intended to describe a given moment of the general profile of the wine. Note that over time, the wine may have other organoleptic qualities since it may evolve in bottle.
