Characteristics and tasting advice for Clos des Lunes "Lune d’Or" 2024
Tasting
Nose
The nose, both radiant and subtle, opens on delicate floral notes of hawthorn and acacia, enhanced by citrus zests and scents of fresh young leaves evoking spring. This charming bouquet, vibrant with freshness, stands out for its expressiveness and dynamism.
Palate
In the mouth, the fruity and slightly sweet substance unfolds in a pulpy, elegant and generous texture. The aromas of white fruits reveal themselves brilliantly, dominated by a delicious mirabelle plum. A sharp but velvety acidity, carried by a beautiful fruity tension, accentuates the sensation of freshness. The finish, long and refined, concludes the tasting with delicacy, signing a wine of great purity in a decidedly classic style.
A complex and delicate dry white Bordeaux wine
The property
Clos des Lunes recounts the story of an ambitious adventure that began in 2011 from an observation and a challenge: to produce a legendary dry white wine on the exceptional terroir of Sauternes. This is the successful gamble of the iconic Olivier Bernard and his family, owners of the Domaine de Chevalier in Léognan who, with passion and energy, have made Clos des Lunes one of the greatest references of dry white Bordeaux wines on this land of sweet wines.
The vineyard
The Clos des Lunes vineyard covers 60 hectares in the hilly reliefs of Sauternes. The 40-year-old vines on average are planted on a mosaic of soils each contributing to the signature of the estate's wines. If the deep gravels of Sauternes confer power, the freshness characterizing the gravel soils on clay-limestone substrate of Bommes combines with the finesse and elegance of the red lands of Barsac.
The wine
Prestigious and rare, Clos des Lunes "Lune d’Or" retraces all the ambition of Olivier Bernard: to produce one of the greatest wines in the world. Made from a rigorous manual selection of berries from very old vines, this dry white Bordeaux wine with a significant aging potential aims to be an ultimate expression of purity and complexity.
Vinification and aging
Manual harvesting in crates by successive sorting according to maturities. Slow pneumatic pressing. No destemming or maceration. Natural settling by gravity, in a cold room accompanied by regular stirring of the lees. The aging lasts 15 months in barrels and small ovoid vats.
Blend
Sémillon accompanied by a touch of sauvignon blanc.
