Description
The richness and finesse of an Alsace white wine
The estate
Established since 1808 in Tain-L’Hermitage, the M. Chapoutier house today embodies the elite of the greatest names in wines from the Rhône Valley.
Vineyard owner and merchant, Michel Chapoutier has managed over the vintages to lead this family business to the top. The wines of Maison Chapoutier are recognized for their refinement and high quality by the finest connoisseurs beyond borders. A man of many hats, Michel Chapoutier holds the world record for 100/100 scores awarded by American critic Robert Parker. Mathilde, Michel Chapoutier's daughter, has taken up the torch of this iconic house, overseeing a vineyard of over 350 hectares across the most prestigious appellations of the northern and southern Rhône Valley.
The vineyard
This Riesling "Lieu-dit Berg" from M. Chapoutier is an Alsace wine made from a plot located in the municipality of Reichsfeld. Planted on a vein of blue schist from Alsace, this south-facing vineyard is planted on moderately deep soil.
The wine
This wine comes from a parcel selection of the Schieferkopf Estate, which is part of the Estates and Houses managed by M. Chapoutier. This estate oversees a vineyard whose mosaic of exposures and soils reveal all the nuances and richness of the Alsace wines and Germany.
The vintage
The winter is cold and snowy. If March is mild, April is marked by particularly cool temperatures. Until August, the low sunshine combined with significant rainfall increases the health pressure on the vineyard. The more clement conditions in the late season are ideal for refining maturities. Despite these atypical and extreme conditions, the harvest is of high quality and gives birth to wines that harmoniously combine finesse and precision with a beautiful acidity and a suave minerality.
