The vivacity and aromatic intensity of a Tokaj wine
The property
Oremus is one of those estates that, by merging in 1993 with the illustrious Spanish estate Vega Sicilia, embraced and magnified its philosophy. Thus, in this prestigious Hungarian vineyard, the continuous search for excellence, harmony with nature, and rigor are the order of the day. The prestige of the vineyard dates back to the 1630s, when Maté Szepsi Lacko made the first "Tokaj run-off wine" from grapes grown in the Oremus vineyard. He then offered it to the wife of the Prince of Transylvania, Princess Susana Lorántffy, to thank her for her delicate attentions to the inhabitants of Tokaj. A century later, Oremus was already established as one of the most renowned estates in the world.
The vineyard
The Oremus estate oversees a vineyard of 115 hectares spread over steep hills whose various exposures ensure optimal maturity of the local grape varieties (furmint, harslevelü, zéta or sárgamuskotály).
The wine
A reference among the Tokaj wines, Furmint Dry Mandolás from Oremus comes from a vineyard ideally located on a volcanic rock hill, in an enclave that was once bordered by almond trees, or "mandula" in Hungarian, from which the wine takes its name. The 25-year-old vines are rooted between 150 and 300 meters altitude on a clay soil.
Vinification and aging
Hand harvesting allows for the selection of the best berries of this furmint grape variety. A gentle and soft pressing allows for a high-density must. This wine benefits from six months of aging in Hungarian oak barrels and stainless steel tanks, followed by twelve months of refining in the bottle, giving it complexity and balance.
