An exceptional Tokaji from the prestigious Hungarian terroir of Oremus
The property
The Domaine d'Oremus, located in the Tokaj region of Hungary, has a rich history dating back to the 13th century, with wine production attested since 1630. Spanning 115 hectares, it is managed by the Alvarez family, owners of Vega Sicilia, who acquired the estate in 1993 to restore the fame of Tokaj wine. Oremus mainly cultivates furmint, as well as other traditional grape varieties.
The vineyard
The Oremus vineyard is located in Tolcsva, in the heart of the Tokaji region. The vines, averaging 19 years old, are planted at an altitude of 200 meters on soils composed of clay and rhyolite. These particular geological conditions, combined with the local microclimate, promote the development of botrytis cinerea essential for the production of Tokaji wines. Yields are extremely low, between 3 and 5 hl/ha, guaranteeing exceptional concentration.
Vinification and aging
The vinification of the Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos 2016 follows the traditional Hungarian method. Botrytised grapes are carefully selected and added to a base wine according to the puttonyos method. Aging takes place for 2 to 3 years in 136 and 220 liter barrels, followed by a maturation of 5 years in bottle before marketing.
Blend
This Tokaji Aszú is made from the traditional grape varieties of the region: furmint, zéta and sárgamuskotály. The furmint, the main grape variety, provides structure and acidity, while the zéta and sárgamuskotály contribute to the aromatic complexity.
