A rich and delicate red wine from Châteauneuf-du-Pape
The estate
Passionate about wine and terroirs, Michel Tardieu created in 1996 with his wife the estate Tardieu Laurent which over the vintages has become an essential reference among the most beautiful wine labels of the Rhône Valley.
For two generations, this family estate has magnified the terroirs of emblematic appellations (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Condrieu, Hermitage, Vacqueyras, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage ...) through aromatic and delicate wines resulting from rigorous vinification.
The vineyard
Planted on a mosaic of terroirs (Plateau de Mont Redon, les Bédines, la Crau, Cabrières, Pignan), the vines aged 40 to 80 years (grenache and mourvèdre: 60 to 80 years, syrah : 40 years) give birth to great Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines.
The vintage
Against the trend of recent solar vintages, 2021 marks a return to the more classic rhythms of yesteryear's harvests, reminiscent of the maturities of the 90s. This vintage has proven to be rich in emotions, shaped by extreme weather. The April frost episode, with temperatures approaching -10°C, severely impacted the vineyard, plunging the vine into a critical state. Despite chaotic regrowth and a weakened vegetative balance, nature has managed to reclaim its rights.
Thanks to well-distributed rains, a moderate summer and a mild late season, the harvest could be carried out with serenity. 2021 thus stands out as a vintage of resilience, where the winemaker's know-how made all the difference
Vinification and aging
The harvest is destemmed by 50% before vinification. The aging lasts 10 months in barrels of one and two wines then 10 months in foudress.
Blend
Grenache (75%), syrah (10%), mourvèdre (10%) and cinsault (5%).
