Description
The smoothness and precision of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape red wine
The estate
Passionate about wine and terroirs, Michel Tardieu created in 1996 with his wife the estate Tardieu Laurent which over the vintages has become an essential reference among the most beautiful wine labels of the Rhône Valley.
For two generations, this family estate has magnified the terroirs of emblematic appellations (Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Condrieu, Hermitage, Vacqueyras, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage ...) through aromatic and delicate wines resulting from rigorous vinification.
The vineyard
Planted on a mosaic of terroirs (Plateau de Mont Redon, les Bédines, la Crau, Cabrières, Pignan), the vines aged 40 to 80 years (grenache and mourvèdre: 60 to 80 years, syrah: 40 years) give birth to great Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines.
The vintage
The recent years powerfully illustrate the impact of climate change on the Rhône vineyard. After a cool 2021 vintage marked by frost, 2022 stands out as its opposite: an excessively dry and sunny year, raising questions about the future of the wine region.
Faced with a drought of rare intensity, the vine once again demonstrated admirable resilience. However, this vintage is distinguished by a strong heterogeneity between the appellations and within the terroirs themselves. The late summer rains played a decisive role, saving some plots from extreme water stress.
If 2022 reserves beautiful successes, it requires rigorous selection. More than ever, tasting at the estate is essential to appreciate the diversity and uniqueness of the wines from this contrasting year.
Vinification and aging
The harvest is destemmed by 50% before vinification. The aging lasts 10 months in barrels of one and two wines then 10 months in foudress.
Blend
Grenache (75%), syrah (10%), mourvèdre (10%) and cinsault (5%).
