Description
The complexity and elegance of a Burgundy red wine
The estate
Founded in 1859, Maison Louis Jadot is a true benchmark in Burgundy. Its adventure began with the acquisition in 1826 of a plot of land from the famous Beaune Premier Cru des Ursules. Its trading activity led to its swift international recognition. The Maison Louis Jadot preserves the notion of a Burgundy that is accessible to everyone looking for great quality across a wide range of wines, including the region’s appellations Villages, Premiers Crus and Grand Crus.
Maison Louis Jadot had Pierre-Henry Gagey as its head from 1992, who in September 2022 passed on his rôle to Thomas Seiter (Bouchard Père et Fils) and general management to his son Thibaut.
The vineyard
This "Clos des Gatsulards" Domaine Gagey 2021 by Louis Jadot is a Santenay Village wine stemming from a vineyard located in the south of the Côte de Beaune, an iconic Burgundy terroir. Situated on a very windy site, this stony and sloping south-facing terroir is unique in its ability to release the heat stored during the day at night. This type of soil contributes to the unique signature of this wine.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted before destemming. Maceration of the grapes is carried out in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks. Fermentation along with two punchings of the cap. Aged for approximately 18 months in the barrels of the estate's cooperage (one third of which are new).
The blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
