Description

A full and intense Bâtard-Montrachet Grand cru by Louis Latour

The estate

Louis Latour is the largest winegrowing estate in Burgundy, with a history of over 200 years of winemaking. Spread over the most beautiful plots of land in Premier and Grand Crus from the Côte de Beaune to the Côte de Nuits, the estate's 50 hectares of vineyards give rise to a range of wines from 130 appellations, each of which expresses with authenticity and refinement the characteristics of their original terroir.

An esteemed Burgundy estate, Louis Latour has been actively involved in environmentally-conscious viticulture since 1996.

The vineyard

This Grand Cru 2021 is a Bâtard-Montrachet wine from a vineyard with vines averaging 5 years old on clay-limestone soils. Situated just below the Montrachet, the "Clos Poirier" is a 0.85 hectare plot facing north/south, of which Louis Latour owns 0.43 hectares.

The vintage

The year began with a cool, wet winter, followed by a particularly warm spring at the end of March and beginning of April, which advanced an early budding of the vines. From 5 to 8 April, a cold snap with temperatures as low as -8°C made a severe impact on the vineyard. Although the weather conditions from June to the beginning of August put more pressure on the vineyard’s state, the flowering was even. The end of August, which was milder and drier, ensured ideal ripening of the grapes saved from the frost.

Winemaking and ageing

Traditional fermentation in oak barrels from the estate's cooperage (100% new). Complete malolactic fermentation then aged for 10 to 12 months in new oak barrels.

Blend

Chardonnay (100%)
