The property
An emblematic name of the great wines of the northern Rhône Valley, the House of Paul Jaboulet-Aîné was founded in 1834 in Tain L'Hermitage. The renowned oenologist and winemaker Caroline Frey has been running this illustrious house, owned by the Frey family since 2006. The House of Paul Jaboulet Aîné oversees a vineyard of 125 hectares of vines, spread over exceptional appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
The vineyard
This Domaine de la Croix des Vignes is a Saint-Joseph wine from an 8-hectare terroir located within the historical vineyard of the appellation, above Mauves and Tournon sur Rhône. The vines, aged between 10 and 30 years, are planted on a south-facing terroir with degraded granite soil.
Vinification and aging
Hand-harvested, the grapes are sorted in the plot. 100% destemming. Maceration for 3 weeks accompanied by gentle extraction through pumping over. Malolactic fermentation. Aging for 12 months in concrete egg, barrels and French oak demi-muids, 20% of which are new.
