Description

A fine Rhône Valley wine that combines power and harmony in an intense aromatic expression

The producer

Founded in 1834 on the hillside of L'Hermitage, in Tain L'Hermitage, the Paul Jaboulet Aîné House embodies the quintessence of fine Northern Rhône Valley wines. The historic house was acquired by the Frey family in 2006 and is now in the hands of the talented and passionate oenologist and winemaker, Caroline Frey. The Paul Jaboulet Aîné House is now an unrivalled worldwide reference, with legendary vintages that have reached unprecedented levels and received impressive scores from critics and the international press.

The vineyard

At the head of a 125-hectare vineyard, Paul Jaboulet Aîné watches over an exceptional heritage that includes the most famous terroirs of the Northern Rhône Valley, such as Bessards, Le Méal, Roucoules, Greffieux, Mûrets, Les Dionnières and the iconic terroir of La Chapelle. These exceptional terroirs have the distinctive feature of beign made up of small white pebbles with vines benefiting from a warm micro-climate and a southern exposure.

The wine

La Petite Chapelle 2005 is a Hermitage wine produced from various plots of the estate located on the hillside of L'Hermitage. This is where very old Syrah vines aged between 40 and 60 years are planted on rich and varied soils called les Bessards, les Greffieux, le Méal and les Rocoules. This diversity gives the cuvée its complex character.

Winemaking and ageing

Following a manual harvest, the grapes were sorted by expert and vinified in a traditional manner. The different plots were vinified separately. The final blend was determined during the ageing phase, from a good selection of the different terroirs of L'Hermitage. This Rhône Valley wine was aged in wooden barrels for 15 to 18 months.
