The property
The Pieropan Estate, founded in 1880 by Leonildo Pieropan, embodies the heritage of a great winemaking family in the heart of the medieval village of Soave, in Veneto. For four generations, it has established itself as an essential reference for the region's great wines.
The vineyard
The Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva comes from a vineyard located in Monte Garzon in the Cellore d'Illasi region. The vines, averaging 20 years old, are planted on pink limestone soils rich in clay and chalk, at an altitude between 300 and 500 meters. Facing due south, they are trained in guyot with a density of 5800 plants per hectare. The vineyard is certified organic, with a yield limited to 20 hl/ha.
Vinification and aging
The grapes of the Amarone Della Valpolicella Riserva are hand-harvested in small crates during the last week of September. They are then naturally dried for 2 to 3 months. After manual selection, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place for about 30 days, with daily pump-overs and punch-downs. Aging continues in 500-liter French oak barrels for at least 36 months, followed by a year in concrete tanks and an additional year in the bottle before marketing.
Blend
Corvina veronese (60%), corvinone (30%), rondinella (5%) and croatina veronese (5%).
