The fruit of an ambitious project, Ao Yun was born from the desire to produce a unique wine on the foothills of the Himalayas. An exceptional Chinese wine, Ao Yun is part of the Estates & Wines collection at the LVMH group. Meaning "flying above the clouds", Ao Yun takes its name from its place of birth. It took over 4 years of research for Australian oenologist Tony Jordan, thousands of analyses, weather station in hand, to find the perfect terroir at 27 degrees latitude north in China, near the mythical city of Shangri-La.
Located 2,600 metres above sea level, the Ao Yun vineyard covers 30 hectares of vines, cut across 320 different plots and spread over the terraced villages of Adong, Xidang, Sinong and Shuori. Pushing the boundaries of wine-growing know-how and winemaking techniques, this exceptional wine is produced in extreme conditions, with a climate that was dry and without monsoons, encouraging a lengthy ripening process of the grapes which could last until December. The Cabernet Sauvignon (95%) is mainly present in the Ao Yun vineyard and is associated with other grape varieties from Bordeaux such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Thanks to the talent and passion of Maxence Dulou, the first vintage at Ao Yun occurred in 2013. Born in Bordeaux, Maxence Dulou embarked on this adventure with the instinct that it would be possible to create an exceptional wine, all while respecting the local culture and the environment. With a limited production and a unique personality, Ao Yun has joined the line of exceptional wines, making it a rare product, sought after by wine enthusiasts all over the world.
