Since 1918, the Argiolas family has produced great wines from Sardinian vineyards with exceptional terroirs. Formerly known as Cantina Argiolas, Argiolas is undoubtedly one of the greatest producers in Sardinia, one of the Mediterranean islands of Italy. A tremendous respect for terroir and love for the vineyard are two main values passed down from one generation of the family to the next.
Located in the south of Sardinia, the five properties of the Argiolas estate are characterised by marly-limestone soils of the Miocene period. Indigenous grape varieties such as Cannonau, Carignano and Monica are chosen for the red wines. For the white wines, the Sardinian Vermentino grape variety is chosen and produced by the Argiolas family in the DOC appellation of Vermentino di Garulla.
For the Argiolas family, terroir is sacred and a respect for the environment is considered essential to produce exceptional wine. This is why the Argiolas estate has adopted an integrated agriculture out in the vineyards. This method relies on natural techniques and mechanisms to protect the vine. Truly protective of the ecosystems and the unique biodiversity of the Sardinian winemaking landscape, the Argiolas family cultivates an experimental vineyard, in which 11 varieties of Sardinian vines are preserved and vinified.
At the winery, the winemaking is adapted to the specific needs of the different grape varieties. In order for each variety to fully reveal its personality and the characteristics of its terroir of origin, Argiolas relies on traditional winemaking methods. A short cold maceration is chosen the rosés, while a temperate maceration and malolactic fermentation is carried out on the reds. Each wine is then aged in barrels for a period of time chosen by the winemaker.
All the wines of the Argiolas estate are produced under the name IGT Isola dei Nuraghi, DOC Monica di Sardegna or DOC Vermentino di Sardegna. We owe to this renowned producer the two prestigious cuvées Korem and Turriga, which have become true emblems of the Argiolas estate and set a high benchmark for Sardinian wines in the world.
