Château Segur de Cabanac : Key Points

On the banks of the Garonne in the Médoc, Château Ségur de Cabanac oversees a superb vineyard planted on a gravelly hilltop in the Saint-Estèphe appellation. The estate takes its name from the first family to own this vineyard on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The Ségur family, members of the Bordeaux noblesse d'épée, were major players in the Bordeaux wine world in the 18th century. The family's reputation is due in particular to Alexandre de Ségur, nicknamed "the Prince of the vines." The Delon family, who also own Château Moulin de La Rose, have taken over the reins of this exceptional Saint-Estèphe estate.

Planted on a gravelly hillside, the 7-hectare vineyard is made up of vines that are on average 30 years old. The grape varieties are dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (60%) with Merlot (40%). Because a great wine is the result of a great grape and a great terroir, the vineyards of Château Ségur de Cabanac are meticulously tended throughout the growing season.

In the cellar, the greatest potential is already there. The hand-picked, carefully sorted grapes are taken to the vat room where they are placed in stainless steel vats for traditional vinification.

Château Ségur de Cabanac's wines are a fine interpretation of the Saint-Estèphe terroir. These wines have a powerful structure and excellent ageing potential. Refined and complex, the aromatic bouquet expresses notes of red fruit accompanied by hints of undergrowth that develop over time.
