The Domaine Jean-Michel Alquier, now known as Bardier d'Alquier, is an emblematic reference in the Faugères region and one of the most famous names in the Languedoc.
With over 150 years of history behind it, the Alquier family founded the estate in 1870 in the heart of the village of Faugères. A visionary and pioneer, Gilbert Alquier was one of the first to graft Syrah vines using massal selection. Jean-Michel Alquier took up the family legacy in 1988.
For over 20 years, accompanied by his wife Véronique, Jean-Michel Alquier has produced great wines that express the full identity of the Faugères terroir. The 12-hectare vineyard of Domaine Bardi d'Alquier is located at an altitude of 340 metres. The vines grow on superb slopes of schist and clay. The grape varieties grown at Domaine Bardi d'Alquier include Syrah, old Grenache Noir vines over 60 years old, Mourvèdre and Carignan, as well as Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Roussanne. On the steep, sloping hillsides, the vines are worked by hand, without the use of insecticides, with the greatest respect for the terroir and the environment.
Domaine Bardi d'Alquier wines have a unique signature, expressing all the generosity of the fruit, combining power and complexity while retaining exceptional finesse and remarkable ageing potential.
With the arrival of Sophie and Thibaud Bardi in 2018, the estate began a new chapter in its history, becoming Domaine Bardi d'Alquier. Following in the footsteps of Jean-Michel and Véronique Alquier, the estate continues in its ambitions, always guided by the quest for excellence and the best expression of the terroirs.
