The Weingut Wittmann estate is located in the gently rolling hills of Westhofen in Rheinhessen, one of Germany's 13 wine-growing regions. Winegrowers for 15 generations, the Wittmann family has been established in the region since 1663.
Just a stone's throw from the banks of the Rhine, the 25-hectare vineyard extends over 4 plots classified as Grosse Gewächs, often compared to the Grand Crus in Burgundy. Weingut Wittmann grows vines on the exceptional terroirs of Auderle, Kirchspiel, Morstein and Brunnenhauschen. Each parcel has its own particularity, enhanced by the vision and work of Weingut Wittmann. Certified organic in 1990, the estate continued its environmental quest and converted to certified biodynamic viticulture in 2004. Weigut Wittmann's philosophy of being as close as possible to nature and the terroir has led it to produce great white and red wines by meticulously tending the vineyards by hand.
In the cellar, delicate pressing, plot-by-plot vinification, spontaneous fermentation and barrel ageing are the order of the day. Weingut Wittmann's wines are the result of a very special inspiration and vision. The cellar, built in 1829, still contains a barrel from that period.
Weingut Wittmann's wines feature not only Riesling, but also Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Scheurebe and Sylvaner. These great German wines are characterised by their fruitiness and exceptional length on the palate.
