Founded in 1765 by Irish military officer Richard Hennessy and his eldest son James, Hennessy is one of the world's leading cognac producers.
For over 250 years, Hennessy has been making its cognacs in the heart of its native Charente region. Responsible and committed to protecting its terroir, the House exports worldwide.
The Hennessy family has the expertise of a long and unbroken line of Master Blenders: the Fillioux family. Daily tastings are meticulously carried out to guarantee its unique know-how. Today, Renaud Fillioux de Gironde represents the eighth generation of Master Blenders in charge of blending with the help of the members of the Tasting Committee.
In its prestigious Cognac cellars, the House's heritage has been carried forward for centuries. Very specific manual techniques are used to delicately handle the precious eaux-de-vie. The first cask in each row is carefully marked with calligraphy indicating its date and origin. Hennessy's signature font is transcribed by a calligrapher, trained by a Hennessy mentor, who in turn trains a novice.
For over 20 years, Hennessy has been committed to sustainable development through a number of major initiatives. Agroforestry in its vineyards, the switch to bio-gas in its distilleries and the use of sailing cargo ships on the France-United States route are all examples of measures in favour of the environment and biodiversity. Hennessy published its first Sustainable Development report in 2021.
Hennessy stands out for its expertise, its uniqueness and the excellence of its know-how, which translates into exceptional vintages that are unanimously recognised around the world.
