Description
The balance and finesse of a Burgundy red wine
The estate
Owned by the Devillard family for 3 generations, Château de Chamirey came into the family fold in 1932. Today, the estate oversees 37 hectares of vines, making it the largest in Mercurey. Built on a rocky spur in the 18th century, Château de Chamirey enjoys a privileged location at the heart of the best terroirs of Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise. With a total of 6 Premier Crus, they are famous for their Premier Cru 'Clos des Ruelles' red monopoly and Premier Cru 'La Mission' white monopoly, the exceptional terroirs for which Château de Chamirey is renowned.
The wine
In view of the remarkable 2010 vintage, Bertrand, Amaury and Aurore Devillard, descendants of the Marquis de Jouennes, have decided to create an exceptional cuvée called 'Les Cinq'. To make this great wine, the best 228-litre Burgundy casks from the five red premiers crus of the Château de Chamirey estate are blended together. These wines all come from top-ranking Premier Crus in the village of Mercurey in Burgundy.
The vineyard
Château de Chamirey's Mercurey Premier Cru Les Cinq 2022 comes from top-quality terroirs in the heart of the village of Mercurey: Mercurey Premier Cru Les Ruelles - Monopole; Mercurey Premier Cru En Sazenay; Mercurey Premier Cru Clos du Roi; Mercurey Premier Cru Clos l'Evêque; Mercurey Premier Cru Champs-Martin.
Winemaking and ageing
To guarantee optimum quality, the grapes are harvested by hand. Once the harvest is complete, it is carefully sorted and then pressed in its entirety. After pressing, the juice is settled for 12 to 24 hours at a controlled temperature. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentations of this Mercurey wine are then carried out in oak barrels. After fermentation, the wine is aged entirely in oak barrels before being transferred to stainless steel vats to complete the process.
