Description
The structure and complexity of a Grand Cru from Saint-Émilion
The estate
With origins dating back to the 16th century and the first harvest carried out in 1599, the Château Fombrauge is one of the oldest crus in Saint-Émilion. The magnificent estate boasts a 17th-century charterhouse. Under the impetus of the Dumas de Fombrauge family, Château Fombrauge became a true model for Bordeaux viticulture. This Bernard Magrez property now shines among the most beautiful crus of Saint-Émilion.
The vineyard
The Château Fombrauge 2023 is a Saint-Émilion wine from a vineyard located around Saint-Christophe des Bardes. The vines, with an average age of 24 years, are planted on clay-limestone soils with Fronsadais molasses. The vineyard, labelled High Environmental Value Level 3, is maintained on a plot-by-plot basis with grassing of the vine rows and ploughing.
The vintage
A classic winter was followed by a warm and dry spring before a summer without excessive heat and marked by stormy episodes.
Vinification and ageing
Intra-plot selection. The grapes harvested manually in crates are subject to manual and optical sorting. Extraction adapted to each vat. Long vatting times (30 to 35 days).
Blend
This Château Fombrauge 2023 is the result of a blend of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%).
