Description
The generosity and precision of a perfectly orchestrated Saint-Émilion
Château La Dominique catches the eye with its modern and contemporary wine cellar by Jean Nouvel. The emblematic property whose wine heritage dates back to the end of the 16th century is located on an exceptional terroir, bordering two prestigious appellations of the Right Bank in the Bordeaux region: Saint-Émilion and Pomerol.
This exceptional location gives rise to a rare richness and complexity of the soil typology, combining Saint-Émilion’s clay-limestone soil and Pomerol’s gravel-clay soil that is complemented by rare blue clay veins.
The constant attention and rigour from Château La Dominique’s technical team have made it possible to raise the wines of La Dominique to become benchmarks of the highest level in the Saint-Emilion appellation.
The blend consists of higher percentages of the Cabernets when compared to other vintages (20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) and Merlot (70%). The Château La Dominique 2017 highlights the precision carried from the vines to the winery with perfect vinifications that allows for the extraction of the beautiful sweetness from the fruit. When volumes are smaller than previous years, the sacrifices made in quantity is undoubtedly made up in favour of quality.
The Château La Dominique 2017 reveals pure fruit with a complex and refined bouquet of black cherry and raspberry aromas, as well as light smoky tobacco and liquorice notes. On the palate, the wine is elegant with firm tannins that envelop the mouth. The mid-palate maintains tension and freshness with its juicy and crisp fruit. The flavours stretch with magnitude to a finish that leave beautiful mineral sensations. This is a perfectly orchestrated Saint-Émilion with impressive elegance, texture and structure that shows a promising evolution.
