Description
The balance and finesse of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
The property
Château Laroque, built on its limestone plateau, dominates the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation. This Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion has been a stronghold of the region for more than nine centuries and is still the largest wine estate in the appellation.
The vineyard
Château Laroque is a Saint-Émilion wine made from a 61-hectare vineyard of old vines from massal selection. The vines, which are on average 50 years old, are planted on the limestone plateaux characteristic of the appellation. They are exposed to the east and to the west respectively, on very chalky, fine bluish clay soils.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand in a plot-by-plot manner and are subject to a meticulous selection process in order to keep only those of top quality. Whole grapes are vatted by gravity. Vinification is carried out in small concrete vats. Gentle extraction by punching down and pumping over. The wine is aged on its fine lees in oak barrels and tuns. A first racking takes place after 4 to 6 months of ageing, the second one a year later for bottling.
Blend
Château Laroque 2022 is a blend of Merlot (98%) and Cabernet Franc (2%).
