A fresh and ample Pomerol red wine
The estate
Located in the Pomerol appellation, the Château Le Gay was once owned by the Robin sisters, who were recognised and respected in Pomerol for their expertise and their famous paternal motto "Quality over quantity". Today, Château Le Gay is one of the most beautiful wine estates on the right bank of Bordeaux.
The vineyard
Château Le Gay 2023 comes from a 12-hectare vineyard, with 10.5 ha in production. Planted on exceptional clay-gravel soils, the 25-year-old vines on average give rise to great Pomerol wines.
The vintage
A cold winter with average rainfall was followed by a mild spring that favoured an early bud break on 25 March, before a frost episode on 4 and 5 April, which was managed by the expertise of the teams. The mildness of April and May, with little rainfall, ensured homogeneous vegetative development. A rapid and regular flowering at the end of May gave way to a June with storms that increased mildew pressure. The summer heat was counterbalanced by high humidity, allowing the vine to resist water stress while preserving a beautiful freshness. Harvesting was carried out under very good weather conditions in a healthy vineyard, revealing high-quality grapes.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes, hand-picked in crates, undergo a double sorting by bunch and by grain. Micro-vinification is carried out exclusively in new barrels. Pre-fermentation maceration at 6°C for 12 days. Long post-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barrels. Ageing in new barrels.
