The estate

Since its creation in 1982, Dalla Valle Vineyards has become a benchmark among the great wines of Napa Valley in California.

That year, Naoko and Gustav Dalla Valle, from Japan and Italy respectively, settled in the heart of the winegrowing region of the Oakville hills with the ambition of producing wines that promote the west-facing hillside terroir, and produced their first vintage in 1986. Oenologist Maya Dalla Valle, following significant experience at prestigious international houses, joined her mother in 2017 in leading the estate.

Joined by a team including, notably, the famous winemaker Edgar Alfaro and the consultant oenologist Michel Rolland, mother and daughter are developing wines, reputed around the world for their character and aromatic complexity.

The vineyard

The Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 from Dalla Valle Vineyards is a Napa Valley wine that stems from a vineyard of around 8 hectares which, through its proximity to the San Pablo bay, enjoys a refreshing effects of the sea breezes and a sunny climate.

Run since 2007 on biological agriculture practices and biodynamic agriculture since 2019, the estate is spread over a mosaic of plots planted on volcanic soils which are mineral-rich with excellent drainage properties. Each of these plots plays its part in the signature of the wines from this great Californian estate.

The vintage

2019 in California began with a chilly winter, followed by a mild and rainy spring, ideal for replenishing ground water. The vines were thus able to take the summer heat and the grapes were harvested at full ripeness in autumn.

Winemaking and ageing

Ageing in amphorae gave this wine rare minerality and complexity.
