Description

A concentrated and incredibly smooth Margaux grand wine

The estate

With origins dating back to the 12th century, the Château Margaux is one of those Grand Crus that have built the legend of the great wines of Bordeaux around the world. The château was awarded the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 and was the only one of the four châteaux presented to have received a score of twenty out of twenty. With the acquisition of the estate by André Mentzelopoulos in 1977, Château Margaux began a new chapter in its history. Elevating the Grand Vin of Château Margaux to the highest level, he reintroduced the Second Wine of the château, the Pavillon Rouge of Château Margaux, initiated in 1908. Following in her father's footsteps due to his premature death, Corinne Mentzelopoulos took up the family banner with energy and passion to maintain the rank of Château Margaux, which has become a Bordeaux masterpiece, so recognizable by its neo-Palladian style. Vintage after vintage, the estate's crus are among the greatest wines in the world.

The vineyard

The Château Margaux vineyard owes its uniqueness to its rare and unique terroir, located on a gravel mound. The estate's grape variety gives pride of place to the flagship black grape of the area, the cabernet sauvignon, not forgetting the merlot, the petit verdot and the cabernet franc. The clay-limestone soils of the estate give birth to legendary crus, with a refined and sensual character, so representative of the great wines of Margaux.

The vintage

A warm and rainy spring favored mildew, quickly stopped by a very dry summer. The absence of rain in August and early September allowed for optimal ripening and a beautiful concentration of grapes. Some light rainfall at the beginning of the harvest did not in any way alter this exceptional vintage.

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc and petit verdot.

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Margaux 2000

Tasting

One of the greatest vintages of the late 20th century... Concentrated in cabernet sauvignon, the Château Margaux 2000 presents a palate that is all smoothness and elegance that reminds us of the 1990 and 1996 vintages. With a slightly tighter texture than its previous vintages, it still maintains a soft and very long finish. The Château Margaux 2000 is an exceptional wine.
