Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Margaux 2012

Tasting

The excellent press wines have brought to the blend a great density and a magnificent flesh, while preserving its incredible finesse. On tasting, Château Margaux 2012 is a powerful, pure, balanced wine with a crazy charm.

A powerful, pure and balanced Margaux wine

The property
With origins dating back to the 12th century, Château Margaux is part of those Grands Crus that have built the legend of the great wines of Bordeaux around the world. The château will achieve the title of Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855 and will be the only one of the four châteaux presented to have obtained a score of twenty out of twenty. With the acquisition in 1977 of the property by André Mentzelopoulos, Château Margaux writes a new page of its history. Raising the Grand Vin of Château Margaux to the highest level, he will reintroduce the Second Wine of the château, Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, initiated in 1908. Following in her father's footsteps due to his premature death, Corinne Mentzelopoulos will take up the family banner with energy and passion to maintain the rank of Château Margaux, which has become a Bordeaux masterpiece, so recognizable by its neo-Palladian style. Vintage after vintage, the wines of the property are among the greatest wines in the world.

The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Margaux owes its particularity to its rare and unique terroir, located on a gravel mound. The grape variety of the property gives pride of place to the flagship black grape of the area, cabernet sauvignon, not forgetting merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. The clay-limestone soils of the estate give birth to legendary wines, with a sleek and sensual style, so representative of the Margaux appellation.

The wine

The 2012 vintage of Château Margaux represents 34% of the total production.

Blend

87% cabernet sauvignon, 10% merlot, 2% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot.
