Description
Chateau Rauzan-Segla 2016: A complex and dense Margaux
Chateau Rauzan-Segla 2016 is a 2nd Classified Growth from the Margaux appellation. The vineyard sprawls over 70 hectares with vines that are, on average, 37 years old. The soil is composed of a gravel, and clay mixture. Chateau Rauzan-Segla is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Wine is aged in barrels (60% are new) for 18 months.
2016 experienced exceptional weather conditions. After a very hot and dry summer, autumn's cool temperatures helped the grapes mature. A rain spell just before harvest also helped. Harvest took place on September 20th to October 15th.
Chateau Rauzan-Segla 2016 developed aromas of black fruits (cherries, blackberries) and spices (pink peppercorn). The nose also has notes of balsamic, grilled coffee, nutmeg, mint and chocolate. On the palate, Rauzan-Segla 2016 is complex, dense, and precise. A wine of great balance.
