Description

The opulence and balance of a Pommard Premier Cru wine

The estate

Within the Côte de Beaune, the Domaine du Château de Meursault is one of the mythical vineyards of Burgundy. Testifying to over 1000 years of history, the Château de Meursault is a true Burgundian gem, today owned by the Halley family. The Château de Meursault oversees an exceptional vineyard in Côte d'Or, spread over 65 hectares from Puligny-Montrachet to Aloxe-Corton.

The vineyard

The Domaine du Château de Meursault oversees an exceptional vineyard in Burgundy, spread over 65 hectares from Puligny-Montrachet to Aloxe-Corton.

The wine

Great Pommard wine, the 1er Cru "Clos des Epenots" from Château de Meursault comes from 5 plots of vines planted between 1948 and 1978. The exposed vineyard is /south-east and represents a total area of 3.6 hectares. Warm and well-drained, these soils located at the foot of the hillside on a slight slope, composed of ferruginous red earth and gravelly soil located on ancient alluvium, promote a progressive maturity of the grapes.

Vinification and aging

The grapes undergo an extremely rigorous manual sorting in order to keep only the most beautiful berries. A second optical sorting is carried out after destemming the bunches. The berries then undergo maceration for 15 to 18 days. Pre-fermentation cold maceration then alcoholic fermentation accompanied by punching down and pumping over. The aging takes place for about 15 months in new barrels (30%) as well as in barrels of one to two wines (70%).

Blend

Pinot noir (100%).
