Description

A Burgundy Grand Cru from an ancestral and emblematic terroir

The estate

Founded in 1782 and present in 9 Burgundian appellations, Domaine Henri Rebourseau is one of the estates which owns the most extensive surface area of Grands Crus in the Côte de Nuits. The estate hails its exceptional heritage-filled vines, resting on land that has been cultivated for over 1400 years. Today, the de Surrel family watch over this exceptional heritage by carrying out organic and biodynamic farming practices. Thus, there is no "Rebourseau taste" and the quality-oriented approach emphasises the crucial part that the ''climat'' plays in the production of fine wines.

The vineyard

Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand cru 2019 stems from an eponymous plot, which is the oldest walled vineyard in Burgundy. Facing east, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru is located mid-slope on a rather steep slope, allowing it to benefit from both a sunny climate and a soil composed of marl and limestone. This 0.33-hectare plot is home to 51-year-old vines which enjoy a perfectly ventilated position from the north while being protected from the rainy western winds.

The wine

This Burgundy wine comes from a precious climate acquired by the Abbey of Bèze in 630 following a gift from the Duke of Burgundy, Amalgaire II. The secret behind this plot is that its history goes back fifteen centuries, which has allowed the soil to enrich itself over time and to develop an exceptionally even terroir.

The vintage

Though the growing cycle in the Gevrey-Chambertin area started slowly, it accelerated from May onwards. The summer notably had two heatwaves. The harvest began on 10 September giving rise to structured and complex wines while preserving freshness and minerality.

Winemaking and ageing

The harvested grapes were chilled as soon as they arrived in the winery. A minimalist intervention was chosen for the fermentations, with light treading the cap.

Blend

Pinot noir (100%).
