The property
Founded in 1782 and present in 9 Burgundy appellations, the Domaine Henri Rebourseau is one of the most important properties in terms of the surface area of Grands Crus owned in Côte de Nuits. The estate houses an exceptional vineyard heritage planted on lands cultivated for over 1,400 years. Today, the de Surrel family watches over this exceptional heritage by practicing organic and biodynamic agriculture. Thus, there is no "Rebourseau taste" and the quality advocated is that of the climate forming the heart of the wine's identity.
The vineyard
The Domaine Henri Rebourseau extends over the Côte de Nuits, emblematic terroir of Burgundy.
The wine
The "Fonteny" is a Gevrey-Chambertin wine 1er cru from the eponymous climate anchored on limestone soils. The 0.8 hectare plot houses 43-year-old vines ideally protected from the north winds and located at the bottom of the slope. This singularity gives great generosity to the soil and surprising vigor to this wine. The oenologist Jacky Rigaud describes the Fonteny as being part of " those climates touched by grace without necessarily being able to explain why. "
The vintage
This 2020 vintage is marked by an unprecedented early start to the season in Burgundy caused by sunshine and temperatures above seasonal norms during the growing period. Winter rains have allowed the soils to build up water reserves that have then been able to compensate for the lack of precipitation during the growing season. Unfortunately, a short rainy episode disrupted flowering, leading to a significant decrease in yields. Despite this, the grapes developed under excellent conditions and ripened until harvest, gradually shaping remarkable tannins.
Vinification and aging
The macerations allowed to obtain colored and balanced wines with a beautiful aging potential. Minimal intervention was favored during very fast vinifications for this vintage.
Blend
Pinot noir (100%).
