Characteristics and tasting advice for La Rocca 2023 by Pieropan
Tasting
Color
Intense straw yellow with golden reflections.
Nose
The bouquet reveals complex aromas of exotic fruits, yellow peach, dried apricot, accompanied by notes of nuts, almond, sweet spices (saffron, powdered ginger, white pepper), honey and light balsamic touches.
Palate
Delicate and silky, the palate offers a beautiful aromatic persistence. The velvety texture balances perfectly with a fine acidity and a slight mineral bitterness that brings character and length.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with risottos, fresh pasta with porcini mushrooms, duck-based sauces, truffle or squash dishes. Also excellent with fatty fish such as salmon or eel, scallops, roast veal with milk and mustard sauce, chicken stews or stuffed guinea fowl.
An exceptional Soave Classico from the limestone hills of Veneto
The property
The Pieropan Estate, founded in 1880 by Leonildo Pieropan, embodies the heritage of a great winemaking family in the heart of the medieval village of Soave, in Veneto. For four generations, it has established itself as an essential reference for the great wines of the region.
The vineyard
La Rocca comes from the hills of the Soave Classico, on limestone soils rich in clay. The garganega vines, aged 10 to 50 years, are exposed to the west at an altitude between 95 and 145 meters. Cultivated according to the principles of certified organic farming, they are pruned in Royat cordon with a density of 5000 feet per hectare, limiting yields to 60 hl/ha.
Vinification and aging
After destemming and crushing, La Rocca 2023 ferments in French oak barrels and large oak vats. The aging continues for 15 months, with 70-80% in French barrels and 20-30% in large Slavonian oak vats. The wine remains on fine lees throughout this period, thus developing its characteristic texture and aromatic complexity.
