Voted Europe's best wine estate of 2016 by the prestigious Wine Enthusiast magazine, the Pfaffl estate now produces some of Austria's finest wines. But Pfaffl is above all a family story, the story of a brother and sister who are passionate about their vines. As a talented winemaker, Roman Josef Pfaffl is fully committed to producing the company's wines, while his sister, Heidi Fischer, uses her solid marketing skills to promote the Pfaffl estate around the world. In tune with nature, these siblings, with their shared passion for the vine, ensure that each grape is meticulously selected by hand.
With almost 110 hectares of vineyards scattered around Stetten, north of Vienna, the Pfaffl estate benefits from a mosaic of terroirs that allow it to produce a wide variety of wines. Although the weather in this region can be somewhat capricious, the variety of soils and the family's great expertise ensure that Pfaffl wines are of the highest quality.
The house produces both white and red wines, but it is the delicate work with Riesling and Grüner Veltliner, the two most famous grape varieties in the region, that makes the Pfaffl estate so famous. By adopting a low interventionist policy in the cellar, the family-run estate is able to offer very authentic wines with a strong Austrian identity. It is only natural that Pfaffl has established itself as a winegrowing estate of international renown.
