The estate

Since its acquisition by the Álvares family in 1982, Vega Sicilia has continued to grow and establish its international reputation. Vega Sicilia is legendary, with its origins in the north of Castille, in the winegrowing area of the DO Ribera del Duero, but it also extends into the DO Toro appellation in the south of Castille.

Today, a continual pursuit of excellence, harmony with nature, hard work and unfailing commitment make this Spanish estate a prestigious name. Over the years, other wineries like Pintia have come to embrace and enhance the Vega Sicilia philosophy. Thus, the extreme care taken in the vineyards as well as in the vinification process is the sign of great Spanish wines from unique lands.

The vineyard

Bordering the river Duero, the 210 hectares of vineyards are divided into three varieties: Tempranillo (otherwise known as Tinto Fino), Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. 140 hectares of this production are reserved for the production of the Valbuena and Unico vintages. The entire vineyard is managed in a sustainable manner.

The wine

Unico Reserva Especial brings out the richness and complexity of the iconic Unico through a blend of several vintages. This unique production process continues an ancestral Spanish tradition that allows bodegas, or wineries, with a bottling process to produce, with each harvest, the wine of the current year but also another vintage whose multi-vintage blend is an elegant and authentic expression of the style of each house.

Vega Sicilia's Unico Reserva Especial Venta 2023 is made from a blend of the 2009, 2011 and 2012 vintages of the Unico cuvée.

This Ribera del Duero wine is made from vines that are an average of 36 years old, planted at an altitude of 700 to 900 metres on clay-limestone soils.

Tasting

Nose
Elegant and complex, the nose entices with its richness. Blackberry, black cherry and elderberry scents mingle with delicious notes of gingerbread, clove, cardamom and vanilla as well as cacao and a box of cigars.

Palate
The palate unveils at the tasting a subtle and refined combination of powerfulness, balance and length. Fresh and supple, the palate is underlined by a velvety touch.

For the best tasting, serve at 18°C.

This great Ribera del Duero wine goes perfectly with grilled wagyu beef.

Storage

This wine can be enjoyed today, and can be laid down until about 2073 to unveil all its aromatic richness.
