Description

The vivacity and elegance of a Tuscan red wine

The estate

In the illustrious world of Italian wine, Angelo Gaja occupies a special place. Founded in 1859 in Barbaresco, in the heart of the Piedmont wine region, this family-run estate has become synonymous with top-quality Italian wines. Angelo Gaja, who has been at the helm of the company since 1961, has revolutionised Italian viticulture and winemaking practices, placing Angelo Gaja among the top wine producers in the world. With a history spanning more than 160 years, the company has been able to innovate while preserving its family heritage and respecting Piedmont's winemaking traditions.

The vineyard

Magari 2019 is an IGT Toscana wine from an 11-hectare vineyard. The vineyard enjoys an ideal geographical position: the influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the limestone soils give the terroir a unique character. The vines, planted at high density, are carefully pruned and maintained to produce high quality raisins. By respecting the particularities of the Tuscan terroir and applying its winemaking expertise, Angelo Gaja produces Magari, an exceptional wine.

The wine

This Tuscan wine is powerful and elegant. It perfectly expresses the character of the Tuscan terroir, which is both rooted in tradition and facing the direction of innovation. Magari stands out for its complex structure, depth and intense fruitiness. The year 2019 saw favourable weather conditions that allowed us to obtain perfectly ripe grapes, giving Magari exceptional richness and concentration.

Winemaking and ageing

Harvested by hand, the grapes were destemmed then placed in stainless steel vats where they were fermented at a controlled temperature. Maceration took around 15 days, after which the wine was transferred in French oak barrels for 18 months of ageing.

Blend

Magari 2019 stems from a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

Characteristics and tasting tips for Magari 2019 from Angelo Gaja

Tasting

Colour
The wine is a deep crimson colour tending towards black.

Nose
The nose offers a complex, enveloping bouquet, dominated by notes of ripe red and black fruit, black pepper and tobacco, enhanced by hints of leather and cocoa.

Palate
The palate is powerful yet elegant. The ripe fruit flavours are enhanced by a firm but silky tannic structure, while the long, lingering finish reveals spicy and woody notes.

Food and wine pairing

This Italian wine goes perfectly with grilled or roasted red meats, dishes in sauce or mature cheeses. It also goes wonderfully well with typical Tuscan dishes such as Florentine steak or wild boar stew.

Storage

This wine can be cellared ideally until 2035, but can be kept for several years after that.

To serve

For the best tasting, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16-18°C. We recommend decanting the wine an hour beforehand to release its full range of aromas.
