Gorgona, an island located in northwestern Italy, is known as the only prison island in Europe.
In August 2012, the Frescobaldi family and the prison of Gorgona collaboration began. Frescobaldi's agronomists and oenologists worked with the prison's inmates, enabling them to gain valuable knowledge and wine experience.
Stemming from the 2015 harvest, the Gorgona Rosso vintage is made from grapes from a small vineyard which is managed in an organic manner and is located in the heart of an amphitheatre overlooking the sea.
Frescobaldi - Gorgona now watches over a 2-hectare vineyard, the second hectare was planted in 2015. Initially comprising Sangiovese and Vermentino Nero, the vineyard now includes plots of Vermentino and Ansonica dedicated to the production of a white wine.
The uniqueness of these wines lies not only in the fact that they symbolise hard work, hope and freedom but also in the new and unique story that is told through each label.
