All there is to know about Masseto’s terroir
Location and sun exposure
Masseto is an emblematic estate and is located near the famous village of Bolgheri.
Geology: soils with a unique typology
The Masseto terroir, which has been farmed organically since 2012, lies on a Pliocene blue clay vein. Over a million years old, this unique geological formation ensures, through its mineral structure, the deep development of the roots and their hydration, while providing the wines with a superb freshness and a unique style.
The name Masseto therefore resonates with this exceptional terroir, whose blue clay veins, located below the surface of the vineyard, are known as "masse".
It is indeed in this Mediterranean amphitheatre that the Merlot grapes give rise to fine wines, renowned for their refinement, their aromatic richness and their great elegance.
Climate: a maritime influence enhancing the identity of a great terroir
Tuscany is known for its Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers. The Masseto terroir also benefits from a maritime influence which, through coastal breezes, abundant sunshine and light, ensures a slow and gradual ripening of the grapes.
Vinification
Masseto wines are emblematic and reveal their magnificence thanks to a mastery of the art of winemaking. With minimal human intervention, the power and potential of each parcel is fully expressed.
