The elegance and refinement of an Extra Brut Premier Cru rosé vintage champagne
The estate
The Larmandier-Bernier Champagne house has cultivated vines for eight generations. Since 1988, Pierre Larmandier has been at the head of the 18-hectare family estate. His ambition is to produce exceptional vintages that authentically express the purity and richness of prestigious Grands Crus such as Cramant, Avize and Oger, and the Premier Cru of Vertus.
Located on the Côte des Blancs, iconic Champagne terroir, the estate’s vineyards, with 35-year-old vines on average, have been worked for more than 20 years on biodynamic practices with total respect for the terroir. The choice to eliminate chemical products and to practice ploughing, use indigenous yeasts and carry out long ageing on lees in casks and wooden barrels confers to Larmandier-Bernier wines a rare and unique minerality and expression of terroir.
The vineyard
Rosé de Maturation Extra Brut Premier Cru 2014 from Larmandier-Bernier stems from old vines at Vertus, an exceptional Champagne terroir.
The wine
While many rosé champagnes in this appellation come from a blend of white wine and a much-reduced quantity of red wine, this cuvée comes from a maceration of pinot noir grapes harvested at their full ripeness.
Winemaking and ageing
Sorted and partially destemmed, the grapes were macerated for 2 to 3 days and then partly vinified in barrels. After 11 months of ageing on lees, the wines, aged in barrels, were blended with those aged in ovoid concrete vats. After bottling, the wine was aged on lathes for 6 years. The disgorging dates from June 2018. The dosage of this Extra Brut champagne is 3 g/litre.
Blend
Rosé de Maturation Extra Brut Premier Cru 2014 from Larmandier-Bernier is 100% pinot noir.
