Founded after the Second World War with 3 hectares of vines, the Egly-Ouriet house, recognised as one of the biggest names in Champagne, now stretches across a vineyard of just over 15 hectares on Grand Crus (Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay) and a Premier Cru (Vrigny).
Carrying forward the family's quest for excellence through careful mass selection and meticulous care given to both the vine and vinification, Francis Egly is an essential reference in Champagne, praised for the extreme finesse and quality of its prestigious cuvées.
Francis Egly brings careful attention to this exceptional vineyard developed gradually by the family for 3 generations and made up of vines 40 to 60 years old on average. Traditional cultivation, ploughing, regular maintenance of the soil, trellising and green harvesting that bring about optimal ripeness in the grapes, and the use of organic amendments are among the techniques used by the Egly-Ouriet house to guarantee raw material of exceptional quality.
Vinification is also a major keystone of the signature style of Egly-Ouriet champagnes. Harvested at full ripeness, the grapes are vinified exclusively in barrels for 1 to 5 years. No malolactic fermentation is carried out in order to preserve the maximum freshness, a low dosage and prolonged ageing sur latte are the keys in the development of these exceptional cuvées.
Composed mainly of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, Egly-Ouriet champagnes are recognised by connoisseurs and critics (18.5/20 Bettane and Desseauve, 3 RVF stars) for their expression of elegance and rare precision, from the great Champagne terroirs.
